As of late 2024, the company was working with the Tanzanian government to expand its digital infrastructure, including the national fiber optic backbone. Airtel Tanzania customers can use the “One Network” service, which allows roaming at local rates in other countries where Airtel Africa operates. This service also extends to India, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka.
Responsibilities
Business Development
- Define and execute the product roadmap for international and domestic transfers through wallets and banks
- Identify market opportunities, customer pain points, and emerging trends in global remittances and payments.
- Champion user-centric design and frictionless payment flows.
- Collaborate with UX/UI teams to optimize onboarding, transaction tracking, and customer support touchpoints.
- Work closely with engineering, compliance, operations, and marketing teams to deliver high-impact features.
GTM & CVM (engagement & Retention)
- Ensure growth of product adoption by driving usage, growth of unique users, value transacted and revenue in the assigned portfolios.
- Identify cross selling opportunities to maximize revenue.
- Have a comprehensive understanding of product processes.
- Manage all communications, customer engagements and meetings with partners.
- Coordinate with external partners including banks, payment processors, and FX providers.
- Coordinate with Marketing, CX and Usage & Retention team to develop initiatives to increase usage of products and services. (Campaigns)
Compliance
- Ensure proper onboarding of partners including up to date contracts and due diligence.
- Ensure products meet regulatory requirements across jurisdictions (AML, KYC etc.)
Manage the product development road map
- Work with the cx team and carry out market research on new product innovations.
- Develop business cases to enhance new product development within the assigned segment and Airtel Money as a whole.
- Work with IT in prioritization of products and services to be developed.
- Coordinate with Group Airtel Money for support and customization of products that address segment /market needs.
- Perform User Acceptance Tests (UATs) before go live on Airtel Money test platform.
- Develop Project Plans for new products and manage the plans to Go Live stage.
- Coordinate the new products & Services life cycle.
- Monitor and evaluate the products & services performance after rolling out.
Benchmarking & market research
- Conduct thorough market research and competitive analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and threats. Use this data to inform product development and positioning.
Performance management & Reports
- Conduct Daily, weekly, Monthly reviews to track and monitor performance against business targets.
- Monitor key metrics such as transaction success rate, cost per transfer, FX margins, and customer satisfaction.
- Prepare timely management reports highlighting performance against set business KRAs.
- Drive continuous improvement through data analysis, A/B testing, and feedback loops.
- Produce and deliver required reports for the business on demand.
- Other duties may be assigned by the Line Manager.
Qualifications
Educational Level (Must have)
Bachelors in business administration, Marketing, Finance, Commerce or Equivalent
Relevant Experience
3-year experience in product management, preferably in fintech, payments, or remittances
Other Dimensions
- MBA is an added advantage.
- Strong understanding of international money movement, SWIFT, SEPA, ACH, and real-time payment systems.
- Familiarity with regulatory frameworks and compliance in financial services.
- Excellent analytical, communication, and stakeholder management skills.
- Experience working with APIs, mobile apps, and digital wallets is a plus.
