Its mission is to improve the health and well-being of the population through research, innovation, and capacity strengthening. The institute is particularly known for its extensive work on malaria, but its research portfolio covers a wide spectrum of public health challenges.

Ifakara Health Institute (IHI) is looking for highly motivated and skilled graduates to join our team as Research Officer-Intern and train in genomics and transgenesis. Selected candidate will receive specialized training while contributing to a cutting-edge research project titled Transmission zero (T0). The built capacity and contribution under this internship will significantly propel the progress of trans genesis research at IHI and in Tanzania at large toward malaria control and elimination. Transmission Zero is a global malaria research programme at IHI working to develop innovative genetic tools to stop transmission of malaria in Africa

Responsibility: Responsibilities

  • Apply statistical and econometric methods to analyze data on malaria transmission, intervention impacts, and community-level economic implications
  • Assist in synthesizing scientific literature on malaria elimination strategies, particularly gene-drive and vector control interventions, to inform program activities
  • Prepare summary reports, graphs, and dashboards that translate complex data into clear insights for researchers, policymakers, and community stakeholders
  • Contribute to field activities by supporting surveys, monitoring socio-economic indicators, and engaging with communities to capture contextual data relevant to malaria control
  • Work closely with multidisciplinary teams (entomologists, social scientists, modelers) within the Transmission Zero program, and contribute to internal knowledge-sharing and capacity-building initiatives

Skill :Desired Skills

  • Ability to work as part of the team and independently
  • Well understanding of molecular biology and parasitology techniques is an added advantage
  • Practical skills in different molecular biology and parasitology techniques

Qualification Required:Essential Qualification

  • Applicants must hold a degree preferably in Statistics or Economics or Statistics and Economics
  • Preferred Language Skill :Prefered Language
  • Excellent communication skills both written and verbal
